Held on October 8th (Columbus Day weekend) at Markham Park, Sunrise, FL, this year’s festival celebrated Caribbean music and culture with an added sonic boost, thanks to a huge mobile Dynacord Cobra system supplied by Drummer Boy Sound (DBS) of Miami. For this year’s LDI and ET Live show (October 20 – 22), Meyer Sound has staked out substantial space inside and outside the Las Vegas Convention Center to display and demonstrate the company’s latest advancements in sound reinforcement technology.
Inside the LDI show, an array of new products will highlight the presentation at booth 257. Outside at ET Live, attendees will have the rare opportunity to audition a complete Meyer Sound concert system in a realistic full-production setting and to then compare it to competitors’ systems at other stages. The proof will be in the hearing.
House of Worship audio specialists GJM for Sound Advice of Placerville, Cal., recently completed an installation of compact EV XLCi and XLE line arrays at Nampa First Nazarene Church in Nampa, Idaho, all powered by EV P3000RL amplifiers running IRIS-Net software. Klark Teknik Square One Graphics and Dynamics, an EV monitor rig and a full compliment of EV wired and wireless microphones complete the picture. The largest line array installation in Idaho, the project was a collaborative effort between GJM, EV reps Progressive Audio Sales and EV Tech Support, all of whom joined forces in perfecting a sound solution for this challenging, highly asymmetrical space. XL Video Holdings and XL Video Belgium have moved into a massive new purpose-built HQ at the Plassendale Business Park near Ostend. The specially designed 40,000 square foot building has been constructed on a 1.5 hectare plot of land acquired by the company 18 months ago, together with another adjacent 70,000 square feet, which is already reserved in anticipation of future expansion.
Approximately 35,000 square feet of the new space is devoted to warehousing, service and storage areas. The hit Broadway musical Sweeney Todd has just finished its Broadway run before going out on tour in the US next year. The award-winning Stephen Sondheim revival starred Patti LuPone and Michael Cerveris, with director John Doyle setting the action in a modern lunatic asylum, with a cast of 10 playing the roles of actors and band on stage. Sound design is by Dan Moses Schreier, who was also responsible for the sound on the last three Stephen Sondheim revivals, with a Cadac J-Type Live Production Console taking a key role at the heart of the show's sound system.
With an innovative concept of live reporting, the German Football League TV-channel ’arena’ started broadcasting. The mobile studio, which resembles a football, stands every weekend in front of a football stadium. Moderator Oliver Welke presents the match live from all the different locations. To achieve the best performance and to supply robust material the developers of ’Make it Real’ used some of the best technology available. 24 Vari*Lite VL500 80V Wash fixtures were placed within the studio. Lighting control is by a grandMA full-size, three MA Digital Dimmer 12 x 2,3 kVA and one NSP. On a typical Saturday night performance, the evening begins at 6:30pm and will run until midnight with approximately fifty performers crossing the stage during that time. 'We have to keep our mindset open and be ready for anything that will come along,' explains Kevin Reinen, chief technical engineer for the Grand Ole Opry. 'There is one show change on Saturday nights. Otherwise, the Opry is a steady stream of artists representing a wide variety of country music from today's mainstream hits to bluegrass to Americana. Lincoln University's brand new multipurpose venue, the £5 million Engine Shed (so called because that's precisely what it was) opened to great acclaim on 18th September with an inaugural performance from huge UK Indie band, Embrace.
