Dan Bell, Ph.D. Bell began his teaching career at community and four-year colleges in Massachusetts, including a long stint at Springfield Technical Community College. After two years as a materials handler in a plastic bottle factory, he returned to school for a degree in Mathematics Education, focusing on how to help students learn mathematics at the college level. His specific interest is in geometrical and graphical methods of teaching mathematics. Bell is a member of the Mathematics Association of America, the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She has a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education with a concentration in Social Studies, a Master of Education in Educational Technology from the University of Toledo and State of Ohio licensures in Elementary grades 1-8 and Principal PK-12. He earned a Master of Arts in Education from University of Findlay, a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Ohio University, and an Associate of Arts with concentration in Social Sciences also from Ohio University. Since coming to Tiffin University he has served on The School of Arts & Sciences Internship Committee and will hold the position of Chair of Humanities Department beginning in the 2014 Academic Year. He is very active in several professor organizations and is a member of the National Communication Association, Central States Communication Association, Ohio Communication Association, Religious Communication Association, Graduate Communication, and the Midwest Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association. Brian Burton Professor Brian Burton, Visiting Professor of Chemistry, earned his Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology from University of Tennessee, Knoxville. After working as a lab researcher at the University of California, Davis, and an assistant winemaker in Virginia, has earned his Master of Science in Pharmacology from Rush University Medical School, Chicago. Prior to becoming a faculty member at Tiffin University, he has been passionately involved in teaching and collaborating with the science community.

He has written and researched extensively on the interaction of the immune system with the nervous system. He has written: Brain Inflammation Associated with Forced Abstinence from Methamphetamine Self-Administration (2014).

Brandon Clay Brandon Clay joined the faculty of Tiffin University in 2012. He went to graduate school at Miami University and did his undergraduate work at Hiram College, where he played varsity soccer and tennis. Prior to coming to TU, Professor Clay held teaching positions at Miami University and Ohio University. He also taught high school English for several years. He has presented papers at national and international conferences, and his current research focuses on antebellum African American literature. Teresa Collins, Ph.D.

A native of Findlay, Dr. Terry Collins joined the Tiffin University faculty in 2005. For twenty-five years prior to that, she served as a U.S. Army bandsman at installations throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She also has the distinction of being the first woman to integrate the Military Band Program. For the past several years she has worked as a classroom teacher in both music K-12, English 6-12, and as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Maryland, Central Texas College, Tabernacle Baptist Bible College & Seminary, and Old Dominion University.

Tonia Duncum Professor Tonia Duncum, Assistant Professor of Physics, earned her Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and her Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Illinois. She joined Tiffin University in the fall of 2015 as an adjunct instructor before being hired fulltime in 2016. Prior to becoming a faculty member at Tiffin University, Professor Duncum taught for 16 years in the areas of engineering, physics and mathematics at Lake Land College in Illinois. She also brings experience as a middle school teacher for gifted children. Outside of Tiffin University, Professor Duncum volunteers with Celebrate Recovery, and enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband. Ana Paula Fantini Professor Fantini obtained double major in Physical Education and Sports Management, minors in Health and General Business, and a master's degree in Health and Physical Education from Union College.

Currently she is pursuing her Ph.D. In Exercise Physiology at Kent State University. She started her teaching career in 2007 as an adjunct instructor for the Health, Kinesiology, and Physical Education Department at Lincoln Memorial University. In 2010 her teaching career continued at Tiffin University. She taught classes for the School of Business in Sports Management as she developed the major in Exercise Science for Tiffin University. Currently, Professor Fantini oversees and teaches the major in Exercise Science for the School of Arts & Sciences.

Lee Fearnside Before coming to Tiffin, Professor Fearnside was an adjunct instructor at several colleges in New England, including College of the Holy Cross, Rhode Island College and Greenfield Community College, teaching classes in photography, video and art history. In her own work, she creates projects using photography and video to explore issues of body image, sexuality, gentrification, and the creation of history. Her photographic work has been exhibited in galleries in New England and in national juried shows. Her videos have been screened at film festivals in Boston, Oregon, Toronto, Chicago, San Francisco and most recently on Rhode Island PBS. Her most recent projects include photographic work on scars and houses under construction, and a video about archaeology. Sushmita Ghosh, Ph.D. Ghosh joined Tiffin University in the fall of 2008 as Associate Professor of Science, after beginning her teaching career in India.

Ghosh taught courses in physiology and electron microscopy at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Later she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois working in toxicology at the Veterinary School of Medicine and a Postdoctoral Research associate at Tulane University Medical Center, where she worked in the area of prostate cancer and lung cancer. Ghosh has presented her research at various scientific meetings and has published over 12 papers in reputed scientific journals. Since 2001, Dr. Ghosh has taught in area colleges and universities in Ohio teaching a variety of courses at Terra Community College in Fremont, The University of Findlay, both Heidelberg College and Tiffin University in Tiffin. She has also developed and taught a number of seated and online classes. While teaching at Tiffin University, her courses include Anatomy and Physiology, Environmental Science, and Oceanography at the undergraduate level and The History and Philosophy of Scientific Exploration at the graduate level.

In 2006 and 2008, Dr. Ghosh assisted with the organization and implementation of the highly successful India Study Abroad Program conducted by Tiffin University and The University of Findlay respectively. She has also served as a judge at various science fairs in Illinois and Ohio. Tiffanie Goff Drawing on over seventeen years of experience in teaching English at various levels, Tiffanie Goff is the current director of the American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI) at Tiffin University. Passionate about the English language and its possibilities for bringing different cultures together, Tiffanie Goff has spent her time at TU working with the international students to ensure their successful transition into their chosen degree programs while advancing towards a doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Toledo.

Possessing both a bachelors and master’s degree in Education with a concentration in English, her past experience includes teaching and supervisory assignments within school districts in six different states from the elementary to the post-secondary level. Mary Grennen, Ph.D. Grennen has taught a wide variety of English courses, including all levels of writing, various literature surveys, and oral communications.

In Dramatic Literature, Theory, and Criticism, she has taught various courses in dramatic literature, acting, and directing. Her doctoral dissertation, 'The Nature/Nurture Dichotomy of Tragic Figures in Western Dramatic Literature,' was nominated for UIU's 2005 Sussman Award. Grennen has a long list of accomplishments in theatre. She has appeared in two off-Broadway productions, and as a musician she has sat in the orchestra pit for productions of Annie, Jesus Christ Superstar, and The Robber Bridegroom. Joyce Hall-Yates, J.D. Hall-Yates holds a Bachelor of Science from Asbury College and a Juris Doctorate from Ohio Northern University, and did post graduate work in law at Capital University. She practiced law in both civil and criminal cases.

Many of her cases dealt with contract negotiations, IRS representation and estate planning. While practicing law, she managed the human resources role in law firms and trained personnel to fulfill the role of a paralegal within the legal services profession. She was also responsible for the management of computer technology and legal software for the law firms. Prior to coming to Tiffin University, she directed and taught classes in a paralegal education program in a two-year degree program. She had taught both undergraduate and graduate law courses for many years as an adjunct instructor. Hancock County Chamber of Commerce presented her an Outstanding Educator award for the 2003-2004 academic year.

She has presented many public educational seminars to explain difficult legal issues. She was a Research Contributor to Education Management Corporation Employee Retirement Answers for the January 2007 issue.

She is a volunteer with Bridge Home Health and Hospice. She participates in walks to raise funds for various organizations, including the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Steps for Sarcoma Walk, March of Dimes Walk, and the Children’s Miracle Network Walk. Michael Herdlick Michael Herdlick currently serves as the Dean of Students and Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Tiffin University. Mike has been with TU since 2001 serving in a number of capacities including Adjunct Professor, Instructor of Mathematics, Director of Institutional Research, and now in his current roles. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Liberal Arts from Malone University in Canton, Ohio, and his Master of Science in Mathematics from New Mexico Tech in Socorro, New Mexico. He also holds Graduate Certificates in Institutional Research from Florida State University and in Student Affairs/Higher Education Administration from Colorado State University.

Mike lives in Tiffin with his wife Deidre, who is the Director of Human Resources here at TU and a proud alum, and their daughter Maddy, a Senior at Columbian High School and their son Sawyer, a Freshman at Columbian. Michael Kidd, Ph.D. After high school, Michael spent 4 years in the U.S. Army Signal Corp as a Network Analysis/Administrator.

After leaving the Army Michael spent the next 10 years working as a Computer Network Administrator and Penetration Tester for companies in industries such as Law, Health Care, Industrial, Service, and small business environments. Along with his education and experience, Michael currently holds certifications in IT that include CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft SQL, and CISSP. Zhaolu Lu, Ph.D. Lu earned his B.A.

In 1982 and taught philosophy at Beijing Normal University before moving to Canada in 1986. Prior to joining Tiffin University in 2000, he held positions of assistant Professor of Philosophy at Concordia University in Canada and Hampshire College in Massachusetts. Lu has teaching and research interest in interdisciplinary and cross-culture studies, with the emphasis on philosophy of cognitive science and Chinese philosophy.

He is doing research in both western and Chinese philosophies and undertaking comparative projects. Lu has published eleven articles in peer reviewed journals and anthologies, five professional encyclopedia entries, five essays in major newspapers, and nineteen presentations at regional, national, and international conferences.

Lu is instrumental in developing China Programs at Tiffin University. These include three partnership programs between Tiffin University and Beijing Normal University - two to allow their students to enroll in TU courses and one that is a resident scholar program to bring BNU faculty members to Tiffin for a year of research. In addition and most recently, Dr. Lu has collaborated with Chinese recruiting agencies and high schools in developing two programs to recruit new Tiffin University students from China. Manfredo has joined Tiffin University as a Instructor of Choir and Commercial Music. She has a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of Miami, and a Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music in Voice Music. Professor Manfredo has an expertise in vocal Performance: Jazz, Pop, and Contemporary, Small and Large Vocal Jazz Ensembles, songwriting, Commercial/Contemporary music ensembles, Theory/Ear Training, and Vocal Pedagogy, and teaching experience from the University of Miami and Superior Academy of Music.

Professor Manfredo was the Bandleader and writer of the 'Alex Manfredo Project' performing with artists: Gretchen Parlato, Cyrille Aimee, James Newton Howard, and Shelly Berg, as well as numerous Jazz performances and awards from both the University of Miami, and Millikin University. Jamie Marinis Jamie Marinis joined the Tiffin University family in 2005 and is currently completing her Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) graduate certificate from Bowling Green State University. In her dual role as instructor of English as a Second Language (ESL) and coordinator of International Student Programs, Jamie interacts with international students both in and out of the classroom. She coordinates cultural events across campus including the annual International Flag Ceremony and International Dinner, which often draw hundreds of students, faculty, staff and community members to campus in celebration of our globally diverse student body.

She earned her M.Ed. In Higher Education Administration and Student Personnel and her B.S. In Community Health Education from Kent State University where she was a varsity cheerleader. Jamie spent her first nine years at Tiffin University working in Enrollment Management and Student Affairs before moving to academics. She also previously served as the Head Cheerleading Coach at Tiffin University for eight years. Born in Oregon, Ohio, Jamie currently resides in Tiffin with her husband and two children. Michelle Maus Professor Maus has taught in higher education, both in an online and seated environment.

Her career in higher education originated as an adjunct instructor in 2005. Her full-time position at Tiffin University began in 2010. She teaches business and healthcare administration courses. She developed the Associates Degree in Business with a specialization in Healthcare Administration, the Bachelors Degree in Business with a specialization in Healthcare Administration, and is currently constructing the Bachelor's of Science Degree of Healthcare Administration for Tiffin University. She has had the opportunity to work in the healthcare industry since 1991 in a variety of different capacities within hospitals, a non-profit organization, in the medical employment industry, and for a highly specialized laboratory testing facility. Professor Maus has acted as a reviewer for a health insurance textbook published in 2014, a peer reviewer for the annual American Public Health Association conference, and recently presented at an international conference concerning the use of supplemental instruction within an online learning environment in Orlando, FL. Sami Mejri Professor Mejri has been facilitating developmental mathematics and science courses since 2008. Vincent Moore, Ph.D. Vincent Moore has worked in a number of non-academic fields and has lived in eleven states while pursuing his educational and career goals. Growing up in Oberlin, OH, he earned his B.A.

In Psychology at Oberlin College (1985). He studied for an M.S. In Exercise Physiology, but instead earned an M.A. In Creative Writing at Miami University (1992). In 1998 he earned his doctorate in English (main focus: Writing; secondary areas are 20th Century American Literature, Film, and Post Human Literary Theory) at the University of Southern Mississippi. Since 1992 he has been teaching at the college level, first as an adjunct, then full time at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and later at St.

Paul’s College in Virginia before coming to Tiffin University. Moore has been at Tiffin University since fall, 2002. A fourth degree black belt, he also leads the Tiffin University Martial Arts Club.

His teaching interests are Composition, Creative Writing, Modern and Postmodern Literature, and Film. Three of his novels are available on Amazon.com. Stephanie Opfer, Ph.D. Stephanie Opfer earned her Ph.D. In English Literature, with a specialization in Medieval Literature, from Northern Illinois University. Her dissertation was a linguistic analysis of the Old English elegies in order to find similar characteristics shared by the poems which would lead to a more specific genre definition.

She earned her Master of Arts in English at the University of Toledo and her Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Criminal Justice and Political Science, from Ohio Northern University. She also completed the teacher certification program for Integrated Language Arts at Bowling Green State University.

Prior to Tiffin University, Dr. Opfer has taught grammar, composition, and literature at the University of Toledo, Owens Community College, Northern Illinois University, Kishwaukee College, and Rock Valley College. She has also been a fellow at the National Endowment for the Humanities “Teaching Beowulf in the Context of Old Norse-Icelandic Literature” Summer Institute at Western Michigan University. In addition to composition and general literature courses, her specific teaching and research interests include Old and Middle English language, Anglo-Saxon literature (Beowulf in particular), linguistics, mythology, Chaucer, and pedagogical techniques for teaching medieval literature.

Outside of Tiffin University, Dr. Opfer occasionally participates in summer “Shakespeare in the park” productions in Fremont, Ohio, and she enjoys playing the flute in various community groups. Bradley Rees Brad Rees serves as Director of the Tiffin University Music Department, where he coordinates TU's new ProMusic degree program, and also directs the award-winning a cappella ensemble Up in the Air, conducts University Choirs, and teaches voice, music theory, and music production & engineering. A leader in contemporary a cappella and vocal jazz education for two decades, Brad has served as the Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado, on the faculty at Iowa's School for Music Vocations, and on the jazz faculty at Bowling Green State University. A frequent clinician at vocal music festivals across the US and Canada, he is a regular judge for ICCA, ICHSA and show choir competitions throughout the Midwest, and has served on the faculty of Halewyn Jazz Workshop in Belgium and many other summer workshops and camps. His ensembles have appeared across the United States and Canada, at the Salzburg Music Festival in Austria, at the United Nations in New York and Geneva, and on tour in the Republic of China, Germany, the Czech Republic, and South Africa. His choirs have also performed on several national TV broadcasts. His own performing credits include appearances with Ben Folds, Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra, Joe Williams, George Shearing, African gospel artist Rebecca Malope, and others.

He sang with the Grammy-nominated vocal jazz quintet, The Axidentals, with Phil Mattson’s Voices, and in residence at the Smithsonian Institution. Brad is currently completing a DMA from Boston University, received a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Northern Colorado, and holds degrees in music and public relations from George Mason University in Virginia. He has served in leadership positions for the Ohio chapters of IAJE and ACDA, and his compositions and arrangements are available through UNC Jazz Press. Mark Sabo, Ph.D. Sabo enjoys teaching at the college level and has over 20 years of experience in teaching traditional chemistry courses as well as non-traditional multidisciplinary courses such as Forensic Science, Caveman Chemistry, Consumer Applications of Chemistry, Marine Science, and Food Science.

He is very excited to be at Tiffin University and hopes his experience below will help students be empowered to value their education and become lifelong-learners, develop their maximum potential, and reach their career goals “ for productive and satisfying lives of excellence, leadership and service” (Tiffin University Mission). He holds a B.A. Degree in Chemistry from the University of South Florida and a Ph. Degree in Analytical Chemistry from Michigan State University. For sixteen years before coming to Tiffin University, Dr.

Sabo was at Catawba College in Salisbury, NC where he served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry, the Swink Professor for Outstanding Classroom Teaching, and Director of the Catawba Analytical Research Laboratory (CARL). While at Catawba, Dr. Sabo spent many summers as a Visiting Scientist in the Counterterrorism and Forensic Science Research Unit at the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy in Quantico, VA.

He helped develop and improve instrumental techniques used by the FBI and teach courses for domestic and international crime lab personnel. From 1994 – 1998, Dr. Sabo served Assistant to the Director of the Center for Chemistry Education and Visiting Associate Professor at Miami University where he was responsible for faculty enhancement, curriculum and materials development, student enrichment programs, networking, and program evaluation in the area of chemical technology. From 1990 – 1994 he worked at Quantum Chemical Corporation to develop new analytical methodologies to solve a variety of industrial problems.

During his time at Quantum Chemical, he served as industrial mentor and instructor for Miami University’s Partners for Terrific Science industrial/academic program. Samoriski, Ph.D. Jan Samoriski joined the Tiffin University faculty in 2006 after ten years at the University of Michigan - Dearborn where he taught electronic media and served as Communications Chair and Director of Communications Program.

At Tiffin University Samoriski has held appointments as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and Dean of Graduate Studies. Samoriski earned his undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism from Radford University and worked as a television producer and director at NBC-TV affiliates in Virginia and Massachusetts. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Corporate and Professional Communication (Radford University) and a Ph.D. In Mass Communication with an emphasis in telecommunications law and technology (Bowling Green State University). Samoriski teaches across the communications curriculum in several areas, including speech, organizational, mass communication, electronic media, media production and cyberspace law. He is author of numerous academic peer reviewed publications dealing with Internet issues pertaining to unsolicited commercial e-mail, electronic privacy, encryption, broadcast regulation and Internet indecency and obscenity. He is also author of one of the first communication textbooks to focus on cyberlaw, 'Issues in cyberspace: Communication, Technology, Law and Society on the Internet Frontier,' published by Allyn and Bacon.

Samoriski is active professionally as a freelance writer and communications consultant. He is also a practicing Emergency Department RN. Nathan Santos Professor Santos is the Director of Instrumental Commercial Music at Tiffin University in Ohio. Awarded the 2013-14 “Faculty Member of the Year”, he directs the touring group, DFX, which has visited areas throughout PA, Ohio, New York and North Carolina. He also has assembled the TU Big Dragon Band, directs the Concert Choir, and teaches various courses including Advanced Musicianship, Analysis of Music, Rhythm Section Methods, Pedagogy, Music Appreciation, and an interdisciplinary cultures course focused on the Canadian progressive rock band, Rush.

He also teaches bass, guitar, and jazz piano, and is a primary piano accompanist for ensembles and students. Santos is originally from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He received his B.M. From Wilkes University (1992) as a music performance major, with an emphasis in bass and voice. He received his M.M. In Studio Jazz Performance from the University of Miami, Florida (1994) where he also studied with Dr. He has previously served on the faculties of Indiana University of PA, St.

Francis University, Penn State University, Main Campus and the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown. He has actively participated in PMEA events including guest conductor for District Jazz Choirs in Districts 6, 8, and 9. He was a guest clinician in the PMEA State Conference in Hershey, PA, collaborating with respected vocal educator, Elizabeth Good, in a seminar entitled, “Cooking Up Some Vocal Jazz: Appetizers to a Full Course Meal,” and also in the State Conference in Pittsburgh, PA demonstrating the versatility of the bass. As a 20-year former resident of Johnstown, he served as Principal Bass of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, regularly performed with Jazz In Your Face Big Band, Acousticity, Soy Bomb, Brex, and White Noise. He served as Co-Director of Music Ministry at Westmont Presbyterian Church from 1999-2012. He has shared the stage with such notable performers as Bernadette Peters, Ben Folds, Joe Morello, Olivia Newton-John, Sherryl Milnes, Lou Christie, John Blake, Jr., George Young, Marvin Stamm, Scott Lavender, Mike Tomaro, Andy Narell, Dave Samuels, Five By Design, River City Brass, Steve Fidyk, Ed Soph, Jonathan Kreisberg, Carrie Tillis, and many others. He has been a pit musician in many musical theater productions for organizations including the Mountain Playhouse (Jennerstown, PA), and various high schools throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio.

He has appeared on several recordings including Family Arts Theatre, Terminal Degree, Stanley Chepaitis, Mark Weakland and Rachel Allen, which can be found on iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. John Schupp, Ph.D. Schupp has twenty-five years experience in the synthetic crystal industry, from 1980 to 2005. In which time he received four patents in the area being granted in 2002. Schupp started a student veteran program at Cleveland State in Fall 2006, and since 2009, he has spoken to over 600 campuses nationwide regarding veteran education.

Schupp helped write, pass and fund legislation for a FIPSE grant in 2010 which provided $6M in grants to over twenty campuses nationwide for veteran education. Schupp is the winner of the Zachary Fisher Humanitarian of the Year award from the Department of Defense. Robert Stover Professor Robert Stover earned a B.A. In Math Education form Capital University and a M.Ed.

From the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently the Teacher Education Coordinator for Tiffin University and also teaches in the education program. Professor Stover is professionally affiliated with NCTM, OCTM, PCTM, and PADI. He has much experience in both teaching and administration at the K-12 educational level and has presented at the OCTM Fall conference in both 2013 and 2014. His hobbies include scuba diving, white water rafting, solving math problems, and enjoying life as a grandfather.

Colleen Vallo, Ph.D. Colleen Vallo has been a member of the faculty at Tiffin University since 2006. She teaches courses in communication and journalism at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Vallo is also adviser of the campus newspaper. Before joining our faculty, Dr. Vallo taught at the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University. She previously worked in journalism reporting for weekly and daily newspapers, serving as a state-house correspondent in Columbus and working in public relations for public schools.

Her teaching specialties include mass communication law, critical analysis of the media, and intercultural communication. Joseph Van Kerkhove Professor Van Kerkhove holds a M.F.A. In Printmaking from Indiana University and a B.F.A. From The Columbus College of Art and Design.

He has taught fine art courses at Tiffin University since 2011. He is a printmaking and ceramic artist that responds to personal experiences through imagery and process. His artworks have been exhibited in a variety of venues nationally and internationally. Galleries in Cleveland and Akron, Ohio currently represent his art. Joseph participated in the Summer Print Program at the, Italy.

Emily Van Wasshenova Professor Van Wasshenova earned a master's degree in Health and Exercise Science from Colorado State University and a bachelor's degree in Health Fitness from Central Michigan University. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD in Health Education at The University of Toledo.

Prior to teaching at Tiffin, she was an instructor at The University of Toledo. Professor Van Wasshenova has practical experience in cardiac rehabilitation and stress testing. She is an active member in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and American Public Health Association (APHA). Additionally, she is an ACSM certified Personal Trainer and Cancer Exercise Trainer. Her research focuses on health behaviors, specifically physical activity initiation/maintenance and nutrition behavior.
