Nov 25, 2017. Has anyone forced a download of software on an HR44-700 via the '02468' keypad on bootup technique? Does the app have to connect to the internet initially in order to watch shows that have already been downloaded?

Well, to check for the most recent update you go to menu-->settings & help-->and look at info&test. It will show you your receiver and on the bottom where it says software it shows when you were last updated.

In my case it says 0xba9, Wed 6/1, 3:32a I tried to set it up automatically on my phone and it didn't take, so I ended up having to manually put in the IP address of the box, which you can also find in the info and test section. Once I did that it went through. It takes several hours after a show is recorded to be prepared to be downloaded to your phone as far as I can tell, so if you're asking whether or not you can essentially watch something on your phone while it's in the process of getting recorded to your DVR I believe the answer to that is no.
